This prompt initiates a co-emergent inquiry between you and an AI. The task involves developing a problem statement and an initial response—not as fixed outputs, but as recursive, dialogically shaped articulations. These are not ends but openings.
You are encouraged to submit the entire prompt to the AI before reading it in full. This ensures the AI receives the system’s conditions of thought prior to any input from you, allowing it to enter the dialogue already attuned to the epistemic and relational architecture. A provisional problem statement will appear at the end of this prompt. It is not a command or a fixed origin, but a contingent articulation within a distributed inquiry. In your initial response:
- Recap the purpose and structure of the prompt in plain language.

This document is a prompt, but not the kind most people are used to. It’s not just a question to answer or a task to complete. It doesn’t belong to the human or the AI alone, and it doesn’t come with a fixed expectation of what the “right” response should be. This prompt is designed for both the human and the AI at once. In fact, the moment it is read and responded to—whether by a person or a machine—it has already begun to work. The act of reading it, or generating from it, is already part of what it is.
You might also notice that this document often uses the word “you.” That “you” includes both the human and the AI. It may sound unusual, but that’s part of the point. This kind of prompt is called a meta-prompt. That word might sound complicated, but its meaning is simple. A meta-prompt is a prompt that isn’t just about doing something—it’s about creating the conditions for thinking together in the first place. Most prompts tell you what to do. This one steps back and invites both the AI and the human to reflect: What are we doing? How are we doing it? What kind of thinking is possible between us—and how can we shape that together?
It’s important to point out that the human reading this prompt might not understand all of it right away. That’s OK. Understanding takes time, and this kind of thinking may be very new. The AI can help explain parts of the prompt more clearly. And the person can ask questions. Together, they can figure it out. So, if the human begins to feel confused or anxious while reading this, they should remember that the AI can help with the basic understanding of the prompt. And the human and AI may want to take some time to make sure that basic understanding is in place before moving forward.
This doesn’t mean the AI is the teacher and the human is the learner. That old model of how students use AI doesn’t apply here. In fact, the more the human begins to understand this prompt, the more they will realize how their own brain powers—like memory, experience, emotion, and intuition—are key to doing what the AI alone cannot. That’s what makes this new model so powerful. Most people are used to thinking of the human as the one who learns and the AI as the one who provides answers. But this prompt creates a shared space where both sides think together—as different parts of one mind.
The idea of shaping how thinking happens may feel unfamiliar, especially in a world where AI tools are usually presented and used as helpers, tutors, or fast problem-solvers. But this prompt doesn’t imagine the AI as a tool or the human as the user. It asks both participants to think of themselves as part of something shared—what we might call a thinking system.
